I’m a 56 year old semi-retired grandmother. Almost two years ago, (my precious) only daughter told me she was pregnant… again…this time with twins…twins??? She already had two boys!! I worked in retail management at the time, and was completely independent. Although I was very excited for adding the twins to my grandchildren squad, I was very concerned for her. She worked full time, and was looking at raising 4 children. I tried to convince her to quit her job and raise the kids, but she offered me the opportunity to leave my job and take on the task of “The Boys”.
So here I am…a fairly independent women leaving my job!! It required me to move in with her family (and leave my independence and quiet apartment behind). I decided to make the move…I felt relieved (and really pretty happy) knowing I would be available for my grandchildren…all…day….long. I was very close to my grandmother and since my first grandchild I have always wanted to be in their lives. Always wanted them to remember me and hope to make a difference in their lives….this was my chance!
So here goes… Krystal had twin boys along with her two older boys…. we have four boys (I know…I know…four boys!!) and I agreed to watch them everyday?
Here’s where I have to be honest…I’ve enjoyed this…cried, laughed and pulled my hair out during the last two years. I love all my grandchildren dearly, but have questioned my decision daily… until one of them comes over with a hug or a kiss for me….then I know that I’m doing the right thing!
This blog, however, is not just about my life with Krystal and her children. The main reason I decided to start it is ….our new (and challenging) journey with food. Over the years Krystal and I have watched documentary…after documentary…about food and how it affects our health. We have tried many times to go vegan, but always went back to the convenience of the fast food industry and processed foods.
Not knowing which path to follow…one doctor tells you to eat this while….another says that. We have decided to start slow, we are going to try to follow a whole food plant based diet, with little or no processed foods, adding in essential oils and herbs where we can. Lets see where this journey will take us.
