Cooking Healthy

I titled this cooking healthy because that is our newest journey. But the truth is I have about 10 dishes I cook, I sort of rotate the dishes monthly and the other days it is usually fast food. Most people I know lives their lives this way. Too busy to change or too tired.

When I was working out side of the house full time I was not going to change. I grabbed my fast food, went home plopped on the couch and watched TV until bedtime. I now feel the need to try to work harder on a more healthy choice of foods.

After my twin grandsons were born I went to live with my daughter to help her out with now 4 kids and working full time I wanted to do all I could to help her and spend as much time with my grandsons. This was and is still a challenge, not wanting to intrude to much and allowing her to remain the women of the house.

I do enjoy being close to my beautiful daughter she has always been my joy. She has given me four active grandsons that I get to spend every day and night with. Even when their parents are home they come to me to ask if they can do something. I am responsible for them. I will do what I can to make sure they grow up healthy and happy. So if i have to change my outlook on things, well a girls got to do what a girls got to do!

My daughter wants to go vegan, I was raised on meat and potato meals. The thought of never eating any kind of meat is a little scary. I’m not sure how to put anything together without building it around a meat/chicken/ turkey, so we are going to take it slow. My goal is to do a whole food plant based diet, with very little processed foods.

Think about this, coming from a traditional American diet where we go down each isle at the grocery store. We have to rethink everything. What are the boys going to snack on?What are they going to eat at school? What treats or desert are they going to get? And how much work is this going to be for me? Remember all my life I had 10 or so dishes I would make. We have to rethink everything.

Doing research is a never ending job. FMTV, Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, Books, Books, Books. Anything and everything we can find to learn how to make sure us and the boys are healthy and happy and have a full belly.
