I haven’t posted much about our food journey lately because we are not doing very well with it. We have really only gone two weeks straight eating the whole food plant-based low processed way. We had a meat Sunday for the boys. We felt like they were starving so Krystal pulled into a PDQ and they both cheered. It was kind of funny (we all laughed) but it also makes you stop to think “are we doing the right thing for the kids” and the answer is of course yes.
Even though we have only gone two weeks straight eating WFPB we were having most of our meals with no meat up until last week. Krystal works for a company that has quite a few stores in the Carolina’s. After Hurricane Florence Krystal’s company forced-volunteered some of their employees to go help the stores and the employees get back up and running. Krystal was happy to go, she remembers after we got hit with Hurricane Irma how much of a relief it was when employees came down to help her stores.
So I’m alone with the four boys and my son-in-law, he came home most days after work to help a little with them. He’s way too busy to help out too much. Soo, here I go back to the old unhealthy way of eating. I really need my hand slapped, its like I find what ever I can to go back to eating the old way. I don’t know why I do that but I do, its like I’m a kid or something… ANYWAY…
I think I only cooked twice that week and both times I cooked no meat. Hey I don’t know why I was so hard on myself! I need to chill out. Oh wait one time I cooked chicken and rice (my old favorite) and it didn’t even taste good. We recently changed our rice from long grain to basmati rice and it wasn’t the same in my chicken and rice meal.
Anyway I’ve been following Sophie Uliano for quite sometime now. She makes a lot of her own facial products using essential oils. I have been trying to get more natural using clean products for my face and body for years. Anyway she is vegan and a few months ago she posted a vegan challenge. The challenge is eating vegan for one month. She had it priced reasonable so I showed it to Krystal and she signed up for the program. Now we hadn’t started eating vegan at this time so she would read some of the emails Sophie sent out, but she really didn’t follow the challenge or get anything out of the program.
So long story short Sophie is doing another challenge for October, It is called “Plant-Powered Challenge” I signed up for it this time, I guess I have more time to read the emails that will be sent out. I’m actually getting sad again. This is a Vegan Challenge which means no eggs and butter for toast. It feels like that is all I have left of my old way of eating, my normal life with food.
I can tell you with no uncertainty I am addicted to food. Not just good yummy food like a perfectly grilled steak or ooey gooey chicken with cheese melting down the sides. I will eat food that really doesn’t taste that great just because it is time to eat. You know breakfast, lunch and dinner, “Plus Snacks” I really don’t know why. We have all heard Food is your friend I mean we celebrate with food. Birthday – let’s go eat. Graduation – lets go eat, Death in Family – lets go eat. Food is wonderful in bringing people together and there is nothing wrong with that.
However like I have said in past posts, I want to be healthy, to be able to live life with stamina and pep in my step. Hopefully this Plant Powered Challenge will help. Wish us luck!!
