Krystal stayed home with the twins until they were 3 months old. Once she went back to work she had to pump in the bathroom to feed the twins. Now any mother that has tried this know how hard and embarrassing it is. I believe she lasted until they were five months. She continued pumping at home but she didn’t produce enough milk to feed both boys.
The decision to use formula was pretty difficult for her to make so I decided to research to find a more natural choice. Now I’m not opposed to cows milk by any means, but after all, we are trying to live a more healthy life style. I found a lot of recipes for plant based milk, however, I was impressed by Stephanie Meyer her book is The Raw Vegan Infant Milk Recipe Book. She has a lot of different types of recipes for infants and up.
We started out using Hemp Milk for the babies and banana milk along with formula. The babies didn’t always like the taste but grew to love it.
I have adopted my own recipe from her book and other recipes I found. I prepare my almond milk about every three days, it doesn’t usually last that long. The boys use it with their cereal and we use the almond milk for all recipes that calls for milk.
You need:
- 1 cup of Almonds or any nuts you want to use
- 4 cups of water
- 3 or 4 dates (depending on how sweet you want it)
- a pinch of salt
- 2 tsp. Hemp Seeds
- One High Speed Blender (I use Ninja)

- You need to soak the Almonds in water overnight
- Strain and rinse the Almonds and put them in a blender, add the rest of the ingredients and blend. ( I use a ninja and love it! This is my second Ninja….I needed a bigger one and the food processer is a bonus.)
I strain the Almond milk with a nut bag and ring the bag to get out all the milk.- I put the milk in a container and place in refrigerate to serve cold.

All the boys use the Almond Milk for there cereal. Although when the boys dad brings home cows milk Matthew acts like it is a cake or something. He says, “can I have cows milk in my cereal Nana?” Collin said the Almond milk makes his stomach hurt. Alexander loves the Almond Milk and will drink it not only in his cereal but wants to drink it straight from a glass. Benjamin doesn’t care one way or the other.
Just goes to show you, the older boys knows we are changing our eating habits. So we have to change their taste buds, just like we have to change ours. And the twins don’t know the difference yet. START THEM EATING HEALTHY WHILE THEY ARE YOUNG!
