MASK OR NO MASK?

I’ve been making masks for our family!

My daughter bought me a sewing machine for my birthday this year. And COVID hit right around then…perfect timing! Through out the years I’ve done a little sewing. So I know a little bit about sewing. When Krystal was young I made her a Halloween costume. She was a Hershey Kiss…she was the cutest little KISS around…really wish I had a picture of that now.

I am a full time Nana now and wanted to sew things for my G-Kids. So, of course sewing masks is a perfect place to start. I watched videos on YouTube and decided to gave it a shot. (YouTube is my go-to spot for learning new things)

The other day I made some masks for the boys. I was very happy with them and I asked them to try them on. Wow! They were very cute!

Feeling confident I decide to make one for me. Once I get it done I rush to the mirror to see how it looks…so let me repeat that…I RUSH TO THE MIRROR TO SEE HOW A MASK I MADE FOR MYSELF LOOKS ON ME!

It hit me at that moment how ironic that was! How this pandemic has changed us, all of us, how it has changed me!

I’ve never been one to throw caution to the wind, I’ve always been a little leery and not very spontaneous. I’m a planner! I rarely watch the news, it is all gloom and doom and I just have no time for that in my life. I believe I’m a live and let live person…

So when this pandemic first started to become more prominent I was a bit of a “non believer” SO…HERE I AM MAKING MASKS & FEELING PRIDE IN MYSELF WHEN THEY LOOK GOOD!

As I was standing in front of the mirror admiring my mask with pride. I realized how I had changed. I felt a wave of dread and disappointment in how thing were evolving in our world.

Early on we would go to the store and see one or two people wearing masks and almost laughing at them for wearing them. Now we go to the store and everyone has them, and if you don’t we question “why not”

HOW QUICKLY WE TURN INTO SHEEP!

I don’t wear a mask because I’m afraid I will catch COVID. I don’t fear it, I do however respect it. I also love and respect the people in my life, I wear a mask in hope of keeping them safe. And they wear one to keep me safe!

I guess it is that simple! Am I a sheep? Well I certainly hope not. I hope my choice to make and wear masks stem from my desire to protect the people I love…just like each and everyone of you do.

We are not SHEEP, we are LOVE
